My wife and I recently got married at the black church and stayed at Hotel Buðir. We had such an amazing time. The bar even stayed open late for us when we got back after the reception. Everyone was so nice and accommodating and we really loved our stay!
The Hotel is undergoing a renovation, but you do not notice it if you are not going to the second wing. The best thing about the Hotel was the cosy Restaurant with very professional personnel, superb quality of food and an interesting wine list. We were positively surprised by Olga, the Head Waitress, who served us and explained all details of the food we ordered.
It was unexpected experience when we were staying there! We were attending a wedding ceremony and be invited to stay in this hotel ! This hotel offer home like staying experience ! We stayed two nights, due to the weather is too bad , we can’t go out, besides your own room there are many living room you can chill out with friends and family !
What a beautiful and atmospheric hotel! We loved absolutely everything about it, but the gorgeous setting and fabulous food were especially notable. Dinner was delicious and the breakfast buffet was the finest we had in 12 nights in various charming inns in Iceland. The rooms had old school charm and the views were stunning. We liked the soundtrack too!
Please note that I’m rating the restaurant, not the hotel itself. I had a vegan burger from the lunch menu and it was absolutely horrible and crazy expensive. The bun was old, the patty was store bought and it felt like no effort was put into making it tasty. The meat burger, on the other hand, looked fantastic and you could clearly tell that someone cared to make it a gourmet experience. Huge disappointment, as you would expect more from a special place like that.
We enjoyed three nights at this hotel. Rooms were very comfortable and quirky design made the place feel homey. Food in their restaurant was excellent. My only small squabbles is that at the prices they ask, I feel like it would be nice to offer a few little amenities like coffee and tea in the room, for free. They charge for every single little extra. And while the food in the restaurant was excellent, there was not a salad or a non starchy vegetable to be found beyond a stalk of broccoli or a sprinkle of kale as an included side dish. This seems to be a trend in iceland. 🥲
Everything it promises and more! Quick friendly check-in process, then we had a couple drinks in the bar before dinner, talking to other guests. The view from the lounge area is beyond postcard-pretty. Dinner was absolutely lovely, especially the wine list and lamb appetizer. The tab totaled 217 USD for three shared courses, two glasses of wine and four drinks in the lounge which is honestly an incredible value for Iceland. We were advised by the front desk that the tap water in the rooms wasn't currently drinkable due to construction on the new addition but they supplied ample bottled water.
That night we went out to the car to get a forgotten phone charger and the northern lights were absolutely popping off for a solid 20 minutes. Even with some ambient light from the hotel it was incredibly vivid!
Breakfast the next morning had a wonderful variety, and I believe started at 7am, good for early risers.
Please, do not do business with this hotel. It is owned by one of the main criminal in the economic crisis in Iceland, causing thousands of companies and many thousand families to go bankrupt in Iceland and more countries, some are still recovering 15 years later! He got sentenced 5 1/2 year in prison for economic crimes, the highest you can get in Iceland for economic crimes is 6 years. These people have no regrets for what they did and are still hiding their money on offshore Islands to avoid paying taxes and giving something back to the society (a society they ruined!). There are plenty of good hotels in Iceland, please find other hotels then those who are owned by criminals!
